After speaking to many Interior Design companies, we chose Ju Design Studio because they really listened, understood our vision, and most importantly shared our excitement in transforming our home. Alex Chang from Ju Design Studio was always creative and dependable. We completed on time and within budget while still delivering a project that exceeded our aesthetic goals. Friends and colleagues have been wowed with transformation and we would definitely recommend both Alex and Ju Design Studio.

Angel Chang

Alex was our ID for our 4 room flat at Punggol. His design is unique and nice. Most importantly, he is trustworthy and quick in responding. He understand what we wants and base on our needs, he designed our flat into a nice and cozy home. He is also very helpful in helping us to choose our furniture and lighting. There is no hidden charges in his quotation as well. Out of all the ID I have met, he is the most sincere and truthful in his advise. I will definitely recommend him to all my friends and relatives.

Ju Design Studio had been awesome. I went to several IDs before finally going ahead with Alex. He had what I was looking for in an ID; Pro-active, led me to discover what I want to fulfill, makes fair recommendations and to provide his expertise. Alex did a great job with my house, and he had a lot of initiatives. He is also responsible, frequently coming to my house to ensure everything is going well during the renovation phase. He also gave me a great deal of advice when it comes to decorating my house according to the theme which I provide him with. Overall, he is one of the best IDs I've met. Highly recommended.

COMING HOME TO A SCANDINAVIAN VACATION WITH BREEZY INTERIORS & OCEAN BLUE

With the concept of “a breath of fresh air” in mind, the design of this Compassvale flat opens up spaces while a subtle Nordic flavour transforms the home into an escapade to a Scandinavian resort for the whole family. The central colour theme of brown and blue is an allusion to a sandy beach and the cool waters of the ocean.

To create an uplifting sense of openness, several partition walls within the flat unit was taken down and a gentle palette of pastel hues chosen to give the living spaces a light and bright ambience that feels welcoming.

In the living room, a massive wall mounted cabinet “floats” above the ground, creatively forming a natural display space for shoes, which makes it convenient for the homeowners to decide on a pair that matches their outfits as well as for easy retrieval. The cabinet also conceals unsightly structural beams and pipes while providing a vast volume of flexible storage space with a configurable shelving system.

Drifting into the bedroom, the sense of space continues with a frills-free approach to spatial design and furnishing. A creative feature in the room is a semi walk-in wardrobe created with floor-to-ceiling closets that are as much a part of the room’s design as they are functional.

Another unique feature of the Compassvale interior is the seamless integration of the kitchen with the living room where the transition between the two spaces is achieved through smart design and a rethink on how to make walls disappear.

INDUSTRIAL MINIMALISM MEETS CONTEMPO RUSTIC FOR A STYLISH HOME

Simplicity defines this project at Punggol Waterway where industrial minimalism is interpreted with contemporary rustic accents to realise the homeowner’s vision of a stylish, cozy home.

Focal points within the various living spaces are drawn by crisp architectural lines that create a visual dynamic consistent throughout the HDB flat. Nature takes centre stage with generous timbre paneling and laminates that allow the beauty and art of natural wood grain patterns to shine through. Adding more aesthetic punch to the interior design is the bold use of monochrome colours to provide depth and differentiation between the decorative and functional.

In the living room, an inverted wooded runway on the ceiling links the TV console and floor-to-ceiling storage cabinet in a unique concept that changes the typical approach to living room design. Structural lines in the choice of the window blinds complemented the grooves of the cabinet to provide a pleasing and unifying aesthetic further strengthened with a straight-cut settee, coffee table and other furnishings.

Exuding warmth and a sense of calm, the bedroom’s design rests on an impressive timber wall board flanked by twin cupboards that creatively neutralise odd angles within the room and turning them into ample storage space. A plush pillow bed softens the lines and edges of the room and conjures the lull of blissful slumber.

Raw, rustic, and fantastic. The refreshing pairing of industrial grey walls with natural wood finishing and unconventional black surfacing created a kitchen of exceptional style that is also purpose-built for heavy cooking.

HARMONISING SPACES INTO A PRIVATE ZENCTUARY

A distillation of relaxation, tranquility and simplicity, this minimalist Ang Mo Kio home makes the most with less to create a private sanctuary that brings forth rejuvenation and restoration.

Taking heed of the homeowner’s preference for a light and bright living space accentuated with wood finishes, the prescribed overall colour scheme centers on white and pale pinewood while hints of grey act as understated visual commas that break up yet link the overarching aesthetic narrative. The highly versatile colours and unobtrusive shading also imparts a harmonising quality that brings the different nodes throughout the flat unit together.

To conjure a sense of spaciousness and airiness within the home, one of the bedrooms was opened up and became one with the living hall, in the form of an open concept study room. This imaginative spatial manipulation adds a lightness of touch to the interior ambience while allowing more natural illumination indoors and improved circulation to cool the unit.

Furthering the Zen inspiration behind this residence, the architecture of furnishings takes a disciplined path towards clean designs that exploit the quiet elegance of thin, lean lines. Cleverly creating more space through strategic wall removals and complementing that with light colours as well as fuss-free decorative style, the resulting home is the calm and peaceful Zenctuary that the owners have dreamed of.

EXPLOITING CONTRASTS FOR A CHIC NORDIC INTERIOR

To realise the homeowners’ penchant for subtle eclecticism and greenery, the transformation of this Anchorvale Crescent home took an adventurous hitch on contrasts to deliver a chic, Nordic-flavoured interior that draws inspiration from nature.

Creating a simultaneous space for warmth and cool to co-exist requires a masterful interplay of colours and design sensitivity that balances distinctive aesthetic themes with coherence. This project achieved an ambitious vision uncommon in designing HDB flats where three different seasons – summer, autumn and winter, can be felt in a single home.

Summer emanates from the living room where an elongated corner settee combined with nautical blues and beachside home furnishing styles evoke a sun-drenched escapade by the sea. In the dining area, rich earthy colours and natural wood furniture install the warmth of an autumn forest indoors while a show kitchen and rooms decked in white and wooded embellishments hint of a wintry alpine.

The different nature-allied colours gather in the unit’s bathrooms where the stark contrasts work synergistically to summarise the aesthetic tone of the entire project. Combined with monistic, structured furnishing lines, muted details and ample room for staging houseplants, the design challenges posed by the homeowners were answered with unconventional outcomes to build a nest they can continuously find delight in.

QUIRKY COMPOSITIONS AND BRIGHT SURPRISES INTERPLAY FOR A ZANY INTERIOR

Unconventional tiling and colour combinations within a white-themed living space give this petite Punggol Way home a big, vibrant personality.

Creativity starts at the main entrance where an amusing patterning of hexagon wooden tiles form an artistic welcome that extends to the living room and reaches towards the kitchen. This quirky design feature takes a fresh approach in unifying various spaces while creating a distinctive personality for the home immediately.

Further realisation of the homeowner’s vision for a modern, bright and lively interior that is simple yet unique is achieved with the hacking of kitchen and bedroom walls to free up spaces, while daring splashes of colours and contrasting outlines juxtaposed with pop cultural decorative pieces add vibrancy and delightful surprises at every turn.

Successfully transforming the home into a pseudo live-in art gallery that reflects the playfulness of the owner’s collection, the overall design provides flexibility for artefact display and at the same time, turning the spaces into works of art themselves through creative tile arrangements and applications. Brightness is achieved through a generally light-coloured palette for paint work and furnishings complemented with simple window blinds to maximise daylight into the home.

RETROLICIOUS LIVING WITH UNDERSTATED IMPROVISATIONS ON NOSTALGIA

Trendy takes on vintage elevate retro revival to the next level in this contemporary Fernvale home where classic Southeast Asian decorative elements are given an unexpected twist.

With a focus that favours the injection of nostalgic hints into a modern space rather than a full on vintage replication, the overall aesthetics and spatial composition are key for the appreciation of subtle yesteryear charms in this residence. Primary colours within the spaces are parred down with neutrals and greys, which complement while not interrupting an intimate reverie of days gone by.

Lineal furnishings, organised dissections and lean ornamentation play up the strength of simplicity to give each space a feeling of transcending both past and present. The homeowner’s penchant for introducing touches of character into his home is satisfied with extraordinary applications of familiar cues in unusual forms and places.

Through a sensitive appraisal of the HDB flat’s natural attributes and structure coupled with thoughtful combinations of furnishings and colours, each room is created to feel like a journey through style, one which will age gracefully with time.
